The M10Q-5883 module from MATEKSYS is a compact solution for FPV racing drones, autonomous flight and DIY projects, combining a u-blox SAM-M10Q-00B multi-constellation GNSS receiver with a QMC5883L integrated compass.

You benefit from simultaneous GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou reception for faster and more stable positioning, even when the signal is difficult.

Up to 5Hz updating via UBX protocol helps with better flight response, and the PPS LED clearly shows you the module status, solid on when powered on and flashing 1Hz when there is 3D fix.

A 15x15 mm omnidirectional patch antenna completes the package for simple installation and consistent performance, with dedicated UART interfaces for GNSS and I2C for compass.

The GPS works on UART, the QMC5883L compass works on I2C and needs SDA and SCL, it cannot be connected on TX RX to be recognized as a compass. Only the GPS can be used, in this case CL and DA remain free.

Use:

Mount the module in a position free from magnetic interference, connect the power and UART/I2C signals. After powering up, calibrate the compass and check the GNSS reception through the flight controller software for accurate flight operation.

Power connection: connect 5V from FC to 5V pad/pin on the module and GND to GND, the module accepts 4-9V DC.

GPS connection on UART: use any free UART on the FC, connections are made crosswise, FC RXx to GPS TX and FC TXx to GPS RX.

Example UART3: FC RX3 to GPS TX and FC TX3 to GPS RX, then enable GPS on UART3 from the Ports menu.

Minimal connection: if FC does not have a free TX you can only bind FC RXx to GPS TX to receive position data, but FC will not be able to automatically configure GPS via UBX.

Important difference: GPS works on UART, the QMC5883L compass works on I2C and needs SDA and SCL, it cannot be connected on TX RX to be recognized as a compass.

Compass on I2C: if the FC has SDA and SCL pads, connect SDA to SDA and SCL to SCL and enable the magnetometer in the firmware, then run the compass calibration.

If the FC does not have SDA and SCL: use the module only as a GPS without a compass, or choose an FC that exposes I2C, or use an external I2C compatible compass.

Betaflight Ports setting: on the chosen UART set GPS to ON.

Betaflight Configuration settings: GPS ON, UBLOX protocol, auto config ON if you have also connected TX to GPS, auto baud ON or usual manual baudrate 57600 or 115200.

Check operation: PPS LED is on solid when powered on, flashes 1Hz when there is a 3D fix, in the interface you should see satellites and coordinates after acquisition.
