Improved version of the SIM800L module, compatible with Arduino and other development boards.

This module is compatible with MicroSIM size cards and comes with a rigid external antenna plus UFL to SMA cable, providing stable and high-performance connectivity in GSM Quad-Band 850/900/1800/1900MHz networks.

To meet the power consumption requirements, it is recommended to install an external capacitor (1000uF, 35V) and avoid using Dupont wires for power supply, as they have high resistance. When the module registers the SIM card on the network, there is a higher current consumption, and the inability to handle this current peak will reset the board.

WARNING: The module requires an external power supply! A current greater than 1A is recommended. The module does not have pins for audio input/output.

It features a TTL level serial interface.

The module uses two diodes to drop the supply voltage by 1V, thus reaching the board between 3.5 and 4VDC. Powering with a 4.2V lithium battery is possible only if those diodes are bypassed.

IMPORTANT! The RX pin of the SIM800L module requires a 3.3V signal! When used with 5V boards, it needs a logic level converter! Otherwise, you will not see responses to AT commands and risk damaging the module!

Usage:

Provide a stable power supply of at least 1A at 4.5–5VDC.

Connect the module to the development board via serial interface (TX/RX).

Use a logic level converter if working with 5V boards (e.g., Arduino UNO).

Insert an active MicroSIM card.

Control the module via standard AT commands (through serial terminal or code).

 

Do not power directly through thin wires (Dupont) – use thick cables and an external capacitor for stability.
