The industrial M18 photoelectric sensor is designed for proximity detection applications in demanding industrial environments. It uses a diffuse reflection detection method, emitting a 660 nm infrared beam and receiving light reflected directly from the surface of the target object, without requiring a separate reflector or receiver. It is compatible with any control system equipped with digital inputs: industrial PLCs, microcontrollers, Arduino modules, ESP32, STM32, or other similar platforms, thanks to its wide supply voltage range (6-36 VDC) and standard digital output.
The sensor body is made of durable plastic, with an external M18 thread for quick mounting in standard holders or mounting plates. The IP67 protection rating ensures operation in high humidity, dusty, or water-splash conditions, while the operating temperature range (-25 ~ 55 °C) allows use in both cold storage areas and hot industrial environments. An integrated red LED on the rear provides visual indication of the detection state, making troubleshooting and function checks quick and easy without additional equipment.
The sensor output is PNP type with normally closed contact (NC), using three wires. In the absence of an object in the detection zone, the internal transistor is saturated, and the output wire (black) carries the supply voltage (HIGH signal), keeping the connected load active. When an object is detected, the transistor turns off, the output switches to LOW, and the load is deactivated. The detection distance is adjustable between 50 and 300 mm via a potentiometer accessible on the rear of the sensor, with a detection angle of less than 15°, ensuring precise object discrimination. The maximum allowed output current is 300 mA, with a self-consumption below 25 mA and a response time of 2 ms.

Usage:
Connect the brown wire to the positive terminal of the DC power supply (6-36 VDC).
Connect the blue wire to ground (GND) of the power supply.
Connect the load (relay, PLC input, indicator LED, etc.) between the black wire (OUT) and ground (GND). Since the output is PNP-NC, the load will be active in the absence of a detected object (HIGH signal on OUT).
When an object is detected, the sensor switches OUT to LOW, deactivating the connected load.
Adjust the detection distance by turning the potentiometer on the rear with a small flat-head screwdriver until the desired sensitivity is achieved.
Check operation by observing the red LED on the back of the sensor: LED on indicates active detection.
Mount the sensor in the M18 holder, making sure the optical axis is perpendicular to the surface of the object to be detected for optimal performance.
