It can detect up to a distance of 5mm, depending on the type of surface and its shape.
It can also be used for detection through thin non-metallic surfaces.
It has a red LED that lights up when a metal object is near.
The sensor is of the Normal Open type: the supply voltage will be present on the signal wire if there is no metallic surface in contact; the voltage will drop close to 0 in the absence of contact with the metal surface.
