The 6868-type UV-C LED is a high-performance ultraviolet emitter intended for professional disinfection and sterilization applications. This LED emits radiation in the UV-C band, with a wavelength ranging from 265 to 315 nm, and radiated power between 30 and 150 mW depending on the supply current.

The compact SMD 6868 format, with a 6.8 x 6.8 x 1.4 mm AlN ceramic substrate, makes it ideal for integration into compact purification systems. Its main features include high optical power, long service life with low luminous flux degradation, high reliability, resistance to mechanical shock, and an easy-to-integrate design for various applications.

The module contains 12 UV LED chips of type 20Y (10x20 mil) mounted on an AlN ceramic substrate by reflow soldering, without an included lens, and an integrated Zener diode for ESD protection. The direct supply voltage ranges from 18 to 32 V, depending on the applied current, with an absolute maximum current of 400 mA.

Short-wavelength UV-C radiation acts by destroying the DNA sequences of microorganisms, achieving a disinfection effect of up to 99.99%. It is used in systems for disinfecting water, air, and surfaces. The required exposure time varies depending on the distance between the radiation source and the target surface, as well as the type of microorganism targeted.

WARNING: UV-C radiation is extremely harmful to the eyes and skin. Do not expose yourself directly to UV-C radiation. It can cause severe burns, irreversible eye damage, and, with repeated exposure, skin cancer. UV-C radiation is naturally fully absorbed by the ozone layer and does not reach the Earth's surface under normal conditions.

Usage:

Mount the LED on an aluminum or copper heatsink before powering it, to prevent overheating.

Use a constant-current driver to power the LED. Do not power it directly from a voltage source without current limiting. The supported current depends on the heat dissipation capacity through the thermal pad.

Observe polarity: the Anode (+) connects to the positive voltage, the Cathode (-) to circuit ground.

3. Thermal pad. Solder it to the PCB for heat dissipation.

Do not exceed the absolute maximum current of 400 mA and reverse voltage of 10 V.

Solder the LED using reflow soldering, following the thermal profile: preheating 90-150 °C, maximum soldering temperature 170-180 °C. Do not perform more than two reflow cycles.

Make sure the work area is protected against electrostatic discharge (ESD): use an antistatic wrist strap, gloves, and a conductive work surface.

Do not look directly at the LED when it is powered. Use certified UV-C protective eyewear.

Do not clean the LED with organic solvents or a brush. Use IPA (isopropyl alcohol) under controlled conditions.

Keep the LED in conditions of humidity below 60% RH.
