The panel-mount Type-C pin module brings a female USB-C socket to a row of pins, so the USB connection can be easily routed to boards, cables, or custom circuits. In addition to the power line, the module also breaks out the data lines to pins, making it suitable for custom enclosures, industrial equipment, front panels, and projects where the USB-C port must be accessible from the outside.

The module provides a female USB-C socket, THT type, and five pins labeled VCC, D-, D+, CC, and GND. The board contains no active circuits; it only routes the socket signals to the pins.

Among the main features are the female USB-C socket, a front flange with two mounting holes, five pads for pins or wires, VCC and GND markings silkscreened on the board, and two mounting holes in the PCB corners. The module has no own power supply; the voltage comes from the source or from the device connected to the USB-C socket.

Through the D+ and D- lines, the module can be used with boards and microcontrollers that have native USB interface, such as ESP32-S2, ESP32-S3, STM32, or Raspberry Pi Pico, as well as for simple powering of a circuit from a USB-C charger or power bank.

Specifications:

Socket: Type B, USB-C, Female

USB standard: 2.0

Mounting hole spacing: 16 mm

Pins: VCC, D-, D+, CC, GND

Layout:

Element Function
Female USB-C socket Connector for the USB-C cable or device, accessible through the front flange.
Front flange Part of the PCB that mounts to the panel and surrounds the socket opening.
Flange mounting holes Two holes 16 mm apart, used to secure the module to the panel.
VCC, D-, D+, CC, GND pads Five holes for soldering pins or wires. The VCC pad is square-shaped.
VCC and GND markings Indicate the ends of the pin row, with VCC on the square-pad side and GND on the opposite side.
PCB mounting holes Two holes in the corners of the board, for additional fastening.

Pinout:

Pinout of the panel-mount Type-C pin module: VCC, D-, D+, CC, GND

Connector Pin Function
Pin pads VCC Power supply voltage, the USB-C socket VBUS line
Pin pads D- Negative data line
Pin pads D+ Positive data line
Pin pads CC Configuration channel, used to detect connection and device roles
Pin pads GND Ground

Usage:

Solder a row of pins or wires onto the pads, then fasten the module to the panel with screws through the two holes in the front flange, 16 mm apart.

Connect the VCC and GND pins to the powered circuit, observing polarity and correctly identifying the VCC pin by the square pad and the marking on the board.

Do not connect the VCC pin directly to circuits or inputs designed for 3.3 V, because on a standard USB port the voltage on VCC is 5 V.

For data transfer, connect D+ and D- to the corresponding pins of the board with native USB, using short wires and a common ground through GND. Only the D+ and D- lines are broken out on the board, and data transfer takes place over these lines.

If you power the module from a source with a USB-C socket and a USB-C to USB-C cable, connect a 5.1 kOhm resistor between the CC pin and GND, because many sources provide voltage only after detecting this resistor. With a USB-A to USB-C cable, the resistor is not necessary.

Do not exceed the current allowed by the socket, the wires, and the pads used, and for high currents use wires with an appropriate cross-section.

After soldering, check with a multimeter that there are no short circuits between VCC and GND before connecting a power source.
