The OpenLog module is a compact and versatile open-source data logger, designed to capture and store serial data streams generated by sensors, flight controllers, and other electronic systems directly onto a microSD card.
At its core is the ATmega328 microcontroller running at 16 MHz, providing a stable and well-documented platform for data logging applications. The module operates through a TTL serial UART interface and supports transfer rates from 2400 to 115200 bps, easily configurable via a CONFIG.TXT file automatically generated on the card at first power-up.
It supports microSD cards up to 64GB formatted FAT16 or FAT32, and its low power consumption (2-3 mA idle, 6-20 mA during logging) makes it ideal for battery-powered applications.
The two integrated LED indicators signal the writing status in real time, and the weight of approximately 2 g along with the compact dimensions of 18.9 x 15.3 mm make it suitable for drones and RC models.
The module is directly compatible with Naze32 F3 type flight controllers and can be used with Cleanflight, Betaflight, or iNav firmware for Blackbox data logging, allowing subsequent analysis to optimize PID settings, troubleshoot flight issues, or investigate the causes of an accident.
Specifications:

Dimensions: 18.9 x 15.3 mm
Weight: ~2 g
Layout:

| Pin | Description |
|---|---|
| FTDI GRN/RESET | Reset for FTDI programming (connected to RESET pin) |
| DATA RECEIVE (RX) | Serial data reception (connect to the TX of the source device) |
| RESET | Module reset (active LOW) |
| SPI CLOCK (SCK) | Clock signal for SPI interface |
| VCC | Module power supply |
| SPI MOSI | Master Out Slave In (data from master to module) |
| GND | Ground |
| SPI MISO | Master In Slave Out (data from module to master) |
Usage:
Insert a blank microSD card into the module.
Power the module or connect it to a flight controller and power the system.
Wait approximately 10 seconds, then turn off the power and remove the card.
You will find the CONFIG.TXT file on the card. Open it and set the baud rate to match the device you want to log (for example, for Blackbox use 115200 or 250000).
Save the CONFIG.TXT file.
Reinsert the card into the module and restart the system. Logging will start automatically.
Operating modes:
NewLog mode: At each startup, the module creates a new file named like "LOG00001.TXT" and begins automatic logging
SeqLog mode: At each startup, data is appended to the end of the "SEQLOG.TXT" file
Command mode: For advanced control, send three ctrl+z combinations to enter command mode via the serial monitor.
Useful commands:
new - creates a new file
append [filename] - appends data to an existing file
md [directory name] - creates a directory
? or help - displays the full list of commands
