WiFI ESP01, ESP8266 module, serial, transmission reception. The module allows microcontrollers to access the Wi-Fi network. It can operate independently having 2 GPIO pins available or can be used together with another microcontroller such as Arduino to add Wi-Fi network capabilities, communication between the two boards being carried out through the RX and TX serial interface.

The module can connect to a WiFi router or can be used as a Host to which both phones and other WiFi modules can connect.

The module operates in two modes: "Run Mode" and "Flash Mode". To be able to upload code to the board, it is necessary to set it to Flash mode. This is done by connecting the pins GND and GPIO0 together before powering the module. Connecting the pins after powering will have no effect.

For programming via Arduino IDE, you will need to download the ESP8266 board in the "boards manager". For this, in File->Preferences->Settings in the "Additional Boards URL" box, you need to add the following link: http://arduino.esp8266.com/stable/package_esp8266com_index.json

Afterwards, you will find by searching the text "esp8266", in the boards manager, ESP8266 by "ESP8266 Community". Install the latest available version, connect the board via the chosen programmer in Flash Mode, select the port, and select the "Generic ESP8266" board.

Important: uploading a program to the board will disable the AT commands. Depending on the batch, the board may not execute AT commands from the factory (boards programmed in SPI DIO mode for example). To enable AT commands, follow the steps below:

 

Switching the board to AT mode:

With the board in Flash mode connected to the PC, run ESP FLASH DOWNLOAD TOOL. You will find the necessary files in the Download section of the product.

Use the settings from the image below:

Restore the correct address in the "Download Path Bin" section. The files are stored in order in the downloaded "ESP8266_FLASH" folder, starting with "blank.bin". Choose the correct port and press START.
