The NTC 10K thermistor temperature probe is a passive sensor designed to measure temperature in control and monitoring applications, supplied with a 1-meter cable and a 2-pin XH2.54 connector for quick, solder-free connection. The thermistor has a nominal resistance of 10K ohms at 25 °C and a B25/50 constant of 3380 K, standard values that ensure compatibility with most controllers and temperature reading modules available on the market. The ±1% tolerance on both the nominal resistance and the B constant allows accurate readings without additional calibration, an important advantage in applications where the sensor is replaced periodically and system readjustment is not desired.

The probe body, with dimensions of 5 x 30 mm, can be inserted into dedicated housings, mounted on heating blocks, or immersed in environments where temperature tracking is required, while the 1-meter cable allows the sensor to be mounted away from the control board. The NTC element has a negative temperature coefficient, meaning its resistance decreases as temperature rises, and conversion to degrees is done either using the Steinhart-Hart equation or the simplified formula with the B constant.

The probe can be connected directly to Arduino UNO, Mega, Nano, ESP32, ESP8266, STM32, or Raspberry Pi Pico development boards through a simple resistive divider to an analog input. It is also compatible with electronic thermostats, incubators, 3D printers, and industrial temperature monitoring systems that accept NTC 10K sensors with B3380, the most common type used in RAMPS, SKR, or MKS control boards.

As a passive thermistor, the probe does not require its own power supply and has no polarity; the two conductors can be swapped during connection.

Use:

Make sure the system in which you mount the probe accepts an NTC 10K thermistor with a B constant of 3380 K; the value must be set correctly in the firmware for accurate readings.

To connect it to a development board, build a voltage divider: connect one terminal of the probe to the reference voltage (5V or 3.3V, depending on the board), and the other terminal to the analog pin and, at the same point, through a 10K ohm resistor with 1% tolerance, to GND.

Power the divider with the same voltage used as the reference for the analog-to-digital converter; otherwise, the readings will be offset.

Plug the XH2.54 connector into the corresponding socket on the control board; orientation does not matter because the thermistor has no polarity.

Secure the probe body in good thermal contact with the object being measured, using thermal paste or a dedicated housing; poor contact leads to delay and reading error.

Route the cable away from sources of electromagnetic interference, such as motor power cables or heating element wires, to reduce noise on the analog signal.

Upload a test program that converts the value read by the analog-to-digital converter into temperature using the B-constant formula.

Compare the reading at room temperature with a reference thermometer and, if necessary, adjust the series resistor value used in the calculation to compensate for component tolerances.

For measurements in humid or liquid environments, check the sealing of the cable entry area and add extra insulation if the application requires it.

When mounting in 3D printers or incubators, mechanically secure the cable to avoid repeated stress on the exit area from the probe body.
