The ZVS induction heating module (Zero Voltage Switching) is a compact and efficient solution for applications that require rapid heating of metal materials through a high-frequency electromagnetic field.

It is ideal for melting small metals, localized heat treatments such as hardening and annealing, or controlled heating of mechanical parts.

It operates at a supply voltage between 12 and 48 VDC and can deliver a maximum power of up to 1000W, with a rated current of 20A.

Important: the higher the supply voltage, the higher the delivered power. For safe continuous operation, it is recommended to limit the current to a maximum of 20A (ideally below 15A for safe use). At 24V no-load, the current draw is approximately 3A, and at 48V no-load, approximately 6A.

The module’s robust construction includes power MOSFET transistors, ultra-fast diodes, toroidal inductors, and capacitors optimized for high frequency. The board is made of double-sided fiberglass, with widened copper traces on the bottom side to handle the high currents of the resonant circuit.

The custom heatsink has a thickness of 8.5mm for superior heat dissipation capacity, and the assembly uses M4 standoffs to reduce thermal losses and increase efficiency.

For continuous operation at high power, it is mandatory to install an active fan positioned above the board, blowing air directly over the resonant capacitors and the other components. The module output connects to a work coil made from thick copper wire or tubing.

The power supply and cooling system are not included and must be provided by the user.

Check that the power supply can deliver at least 10A. Warning: an undersized power supply may permanently damage the ZVS module.

Check that the transistor temperature remains within an acceptable range. Burning out the module is not covered by warranty.

The current drawn by the module depends on several combined factors:

- Supply voltage - the higher the voltage, the higher the current draw for the same load.

- Size and mass of the metal piece - a larger or thicker piece represents a greater load for the resonant circuit, causing the module to draw more current from the power supply.

- Material of the piece - iron and steel heat up more slowly and draw more current than aluminum or copper.

- Position of the piece relative to the coil - the better the piece fills the inside of the coil, the better the electromagnetic coupling and the higher the current draw.

Pinout:

Terminal Description
(+) Positive power supply (12-48 VDC)
(-) Ground power supply
OUT1 Work coil connection (one end)
OUT2 Work coil connection (the other end)

Use:

Connect the two ends of the copper coil to the OUT1 and OUT2 terminals of the module.

Install an active fan positioned above the board, oriented to blow air directly over the resonant capacitors and board components.

Connect the power supply to the (+) and (-) terminals of the board, strictly observing polarity.

Warning when starting with a switching power supply: if you are using a switching power supply, wait until the supply output voltage exceeds 12V before connecting the ZVS module to it. Connecting it before the voltage reaches 12V may prevent oscillation from starting and may cause simultaneous conduction of the MOSFET transistors, destroying the module.

Check that the power supply can deliver at least 10A. An undersized power supply may permanently damage the ZVS module.

Place the metal object inside the work coil. The volume of the object must not exceed 1/5 of the coil’s internal volume. If the object is cylindrical, its diameter must not exceed 1/3 of the coil’s inner diameter. Exceeding these limits may cause overload and damage to the circuit or power supply.

Apply the supply voltage. The module will start oscillating automatically and the metal object will heat up rapidly.

Continuously monitor the current draw using an ammeter installed between the power supply and the module. Do not exceed 20A in continuous operation and keep the current below 15A for maximum safety.

Choose the supply voltage according to the application: for small objects under 1 square cm, 24V is sufficient and recommended. Higher voltages increase power and heating speed, but also the thermal load on the module.

Do not touch the work coil or the metal object during operation. The temperatures reached can be extremely high.

Turn off the power immediately after finishing the operation and allow all parts to cool before handling.
