The S09 module is an automatic DC-DC buck-boost converter that maintains a fixed 5 VDC output regardless of whether the input voltage is higher or lower than that value. It is a compact solution for stable power supply of 5 VDC loads from variable-voltage sources, such as Li-ion batteries, NiMH batteries, or automotive supplies, and is suitable for communication modules, digital radios, development boards, model aircraft, automotive equipment, and battery-powered monitoring systems.
The circuit automatically switches between boost mode when the input voltage drops below 5 V and buck mode when it rises above 5 V, without user intervention. The module accepts an input voltage between 2.5 and 15 VDC and operates at a switching frequency of up to 1.2 MHz, with a quiescent current below 200 uA, making it suitable for long-term battery-powered applications. The board has a dedicated EN pin, through which the module can be turned on or off externally, separate from the input supply.
Among the main features are the two switching inductors, the rectifier diode, the control integrated circuit, and the 5 solder pads (VIN+, VIN-, EN, VOUT+, VOUT-) used for both power input and load connection, with the module able to be mounted by direct SMD soldering onto the PCB or on 2.54 mm pitch pins.
With its fixed 5 VDC output, the module is compatible as a power source for boards such as Arduino, ESP32, STM32, and Raspberry Pi, as well as for modules and sensors designed to operate at 5 V, when powered from a battery or from a variable-voltage supply.

Pinout:
| Connector | Pin | Function |
|---|---|---|
| S09 board | VIN+ | Positive power input, 2.5 - 15 VDC |
| S09 board | VIN- | Input ground (GND) |
| S09 board | EN | Module enable / disable |
| S09 board | VOUT+ | Stabilized positive 5 VDC output |
| S09 board | VOUT- | Output ground (GND) |
| EN | Module state |
|---|---|
| 3 - 15 V (usually connected directly to VIN+) | Module active, continuous operation |
| Low level or unconnected | Module off, output disabled |
Use:
Connect the power supply with a voltage between 2.5 and 15 VDC to the VIN+ and VIN- pins, observing polarity.
For continuous operation, connect the EN pin directly to VIN+, so the module starts automatically when power is applied.
If you want external control, leave EN unconnected or pull it low to turn off the module, and apply 3 - 15 V to EN to turn it back on.
Connect the 5 VDC load to the VOUT+ and VOUT- pins, without exceeding the maximum current of 600 mA.
Keep in mind that at low input voltages, when the module operates in boost mode, the input current drawn is higher than the output current delivered.
Before mounting, check that the ordered module version is the 5 V version, marked on the back of the board, because the same S09 model is also produced in 3.3 V, 9 V, or 12 V variants with different fixed outputs.
Mount the module by direct SMD soldering onto the PCB or on 2.54 mm pitch pins, depending on the space available in your project.
For stable results in battery-powered applications, take into account the quiescent current below 200 uA and the output ripple below 50 mV when powering noise-sensitive circuits.
