Stepper motor driver, DM556, compatible with Nema17 and Nema23 motors, designed to provide optimal performance, efficiency and reliability in a wide variety of industrial and automation applications. This stepper digital driver uses advanced technology to ensure smooth and precise movement while reducing motor noise and power consumption.

The DM556 driver significantly reduces engine noise at all speeds, offering extremely quiet operation.

It implements advanced techniques to eliminate instability at medium frequencies, thus optimizing torque and engine performance.

Auto-Test and Auto-Configuration functions, features that allow the driver to adapt and provide optimal responses with different types of motors step by step, ensuring easy integration and maximum efficiency.

They can be selected from a wide range of microstep resolutions, from full step up to 25600 microsteps per revolution, for ultra-smooth movement and extremely precise positioning.

It supports an input voltage from 20VDC to 50VDC, offering flexibility in choosing the power source and stepper motor used.

It uses switches that define the settings of the driver's operation. All possible configurations are printed on the driver. It allows fine adjustment of current and microstep resolution through DIP switches, offering complete control over motor performance.

The output current is programmable between 0.5A and 5.6A, allowing use with a wide range of stepper motors.

It is able to accept an input frequency of pulses up to 200kHz allowing a fast and precise control of the motor.

Automatic Idle Current Reduction function that reduces the current when the engine is not moving, saving energy and minimizing heat generation.

It supports both PUL/DIR and CW/CCW mode, offering flexibility in controlling the direction and movement of the motor.

It includes protections against overheating, over-voltage and short-circuit, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the system in the long term.

The DM556 offers dedicated pins for the PUL+, PUL-, DIR+, DIR-, ENA+ and ENA- signals, facilitating connectivity and simple configuration with most control systems.

The driver is cooled by the integrated metal radiator. In case of overheating, it is recommended to add a fan for active cooling.

Signal Pins:

PUL+ & PUL- (Pulse): These pins represent the pulse signal. In pulse/direction mode, this input represents the pulse signal, activating at each rising or falling edge (configurable through software). In double pulse mode (pulses/pulses), this input represents the pulse for clockwise (CW) rotation, active both at high level and at low level (configurable through software). For a reliable response, the pulse width must be greater than 2.5µs. Connect resistors in series to limit the current when using +12V or +24V.

DIR+ & DIR- (Direction): In single pulse mode, this signal has low/high voltage levels, representing the two rotation directions of the motor; in double pulse mode (configurable through software), this signal represents the pulse for counterclockwise rotation (CCW), active both at high level and at low level. For a reliable movement, the DIR signal must precede the PUL signal by at least 5 µs. 4-5V when DIR is HIGH, 0-0.5V when DIR is LOW. The direction of rotation is also influenced by how the motor coil wires are connected to the driver.

ENA+ & ENA- (Enable): This signal is used to enable/disable the driver. High level (NPN control signal, PNP and differential control signals are opposite, ie low level for activation) activates the driver, and low level deactivates it. It is usually left unconnected (enabled).

Power Pins and Motor Connections:

+Vdc: Power supply, between 20-50 VDC, taking into account voltage fluctuations and EMF voltage

GND: Ground, GND

A+, A-: Phase A of the motor

B+, B-: Phase B of the motor
