## Description

MICS-5524 sensor module for air quality monitoring and VOC detection, ideal for Arduino projects, automation and industrial applications. Measures total levels of multiple gases such as CO, NO2, H2, NH3 and hydrocarbons, provides easy-to-read analog output on a single pin, operates at 5V and includes Enable pin for heater control and low power consumption.
The MICS-5524 module is an air quality sensor, compatible with Arduino and other development boards, designed for detecting and measuring concentrations of carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), hydrogen (H2), ammonia (NH3), and methane / propane / isobutane in various environments.
The gas sensor uses the MICS-5524, which represents a versatile solution for air quality monitoring in various applications, such as detecting harmful gases indoors, monitoring air quality in offices or residential spaces, as well as in industrial applications.
The sensor generates analog values on a single pin, which means it cannot precisely identify the detected gas. 5V and GND are used to power the module.
The sensor has an Enable pin for the heater, allowing low power consumption and heating the sensor only when necessary. The iEn pin must be set LOW to be activated, via a digital pin.
Specifications:
Supply voltage: 5 VDC
Current consumption: ~25-35mA (for sensor heating)
Interface: Analog, for reading gas concentration values
Operating temperature: Between -20°C and +50°C
Detected gases: CO, H2, NH3, CH4, C3H8, C4H10
Dimensions: 19.2 x 13mm
Detection range:
Carbon monoxide (CO): ~1-1000 ppm (parts per million)
Ammonia (NH3): ~1-500 ppm (parts per million)
Ethanol: ~10-500 ppm (parts per million)
Hydrogen: ~1-1000 ppm (parts per million)
Methane / Propane / Isobutane: >1000 ppm (parts per million)
Usage:
Connect the module to the development board: 5V to 5V, GND to GND, and the AO pin to an analog pin (e.g., A0).
After powering, let the sensor warm up to stabilize, especially on first use or after long breaks. The sensor should be kept in a clean air environment during initialization.
Read the analog value and use it to monitor the increase or decrease of gas levels over time, ideally with alarm thresholds set in code.
For more consistent results, use averaged measurements over multiple readings and avoid strong air currents directly on the sensor.
If you need ppm estimates, calibration in the target environment and comparison with reference values is recommended, as response varies depending on gas, temperature, and humidity.
Do not keep the sensor active permanently. Take readings at regular intervals with software pauses to extend its lifespan.
